Med. Fantasy Equivalent of a Smart Phone

GMMichael

Guide of Modos
Merlin, King Arthur, Lady Guinevere, and Sir Galahad are all sitting at the Square Table (the round one is still dirty from breaking fasts). Sir Galahad gets bored of the adult conversation, and looks for something more interesting to do while he waits with his elders.

What gets his dopamine going?

I'll start with: uncovering a Palantir, just to get the obvious one out of the way 🤓

Not sure, but this peasant catapult game was ok to play for a while.

He could just have jesters yell mean things at each other like a social media site.

In Shroompunk, any child nearing adulthood can enchant a basic smartphone in a couple of hours. It's a prerequisite to being allowed to wander past the fenceline, either to play/explore or to hunt and forage. There are no real search algorithms, and artificial intelligence requires some real enchanting talent-- akin to an artificer or an actual robot-- but they've got robust voice and text chat, group chat functions, and the ability to search terrestrial libraries by media tags. These services are free to end-users, with the library supported by taxes, wealthy patrons... and upcharges on premium services.

Extraterrestrial communications require couriers to physically go through the Warp Zone to the world where the recipient is currently residing, where it is transmitted by relay from the courier's phone to the recipient's. This is very expensive, slow, and prone to the couriers dying horribly-- though, at least, a copy of your message will be given to the next courier scheduled to complete the deceased one's route.

He goes outside or reads a book.

You know, the kinds of ways people entertained themselves before computers appeared.

A Tome of Infinite Pages. Each page holds a new story each time you turn to it. And lasciviously illustrated, because that was the thing in the era...
