Medieval Lives

His take on the Monks was pretty.... ....hmmm, incomplete and, one might say, oddly one sided.

Still he did nice work on the influence as an economic and organizing force.

Also, though I missed the part on Benedict, it seemed to me that he was oddly limiting himself to English phenomena without picking up how they related to things that were happening on the continent.

It's typical of English treatments of medieval history. The rest of the world only exists as a backdrop for England. What, you think the USA invented all our cultural flaws de novo? We have "isolationism", they have "splendid isolation". When it's on an island nation, it's quaint and slightly amusing...

I just watched the show on Minstrels. I just happened to come across it while channel surfing. I enjoyed it. Too bad I missed the others. I'll have to check back to see if they replay them.

Two new ones this week...

"The Outlaw"
Outlaws gain a place of respect in society.

&

"The Peasant"
Peasants enjoy many holidays.

:)
