As Murphy steps on the platform next to the Frostling, it turns to grin at him with needle-sharp fangs. The platform suddenly jolts into motion and sinks down into the floor, leaving Murphy trapped in a confined space with the thing. Smooth walls tower up on all four sides, and the sky above slowly recedes, still visible through the top of the shaft, as the lift trundles slowly downwards. The frostling seems to bask in the cold surrounding Murphy. It lunges forward and stabs him with a sword-like claw, shearing away a chunk of his ice armour. "You try to stop me with ice?" it hisses incredulously. "Soon your whole world will be covered in ice! As soon as the guardian spirit defeats you and I can get back to altering the spell on the binding stone!" [sblock=Insight 16] It seems pretty worried about that, actually. You realize that, since you destroyed all its portals below, it's probably trapped in the tower unless it can return to the top and finish its work. [/sblock] Balth hits the Spirit with another arrow, and Larinza and Shorrin converge on it to rain down furious blows. It strikes back with its mighty fists, missing them both with a mighty woosh. Shorrin's return blow is similaraly fruitless. It bellows and the gem flashes in time, pulsing out 4 icy rays - and suddenly Shorrin is bleeding, and Larinza and Janus are both unconscious on the ground. The Spirit of Winter bellows in triumph. [sblock=Murphy] I'd like to remind you that you're still carrying the Shroud of Protection. [/sblock] [sblock=Status] Balth moves to B10 and hits it once with Twin Strike for 9. Shorrin forgot to roll his save vs slow: save vs slow (1d20=19) He saves! He misses with Tide of Iron, and shifts to B4. Murphy misses with Eldritch Blast and moves to J9 (gaining concealment). Larinza makes her save vs slow, and hits with Furious Smash for 3 damage. Shorrin follows up with an attack: Basic Attack on Spirit of Winter (hit: +1 magic weapon, +2 Villain's Menace, +3 Furious Smash; damage: +1 magic weapon, +4 Villain's Menace, +3 Furious Smash) (1d20+6+1+2+3=25, 1d10+3+1+4+3=18) Hit for 18. Janus moves to I4 and misses the Frostling with magic missile. The Frostling takes no damage from Armor of Agathys (resist 10 cold). With a move action, it activates the lift, moving it down one floor. Murphy and the Frostling are now 10' below the level of the roof, and nobody has line of sight to them unless they are adjacent to the lift. (Murphy can try to move the lift with a mental command as well - this will be an opposed Arcana check against the Frostling if you try to raise it.) It attacks Murphy with Ice Shard: Ice Shard on Murphy (1d20+9=22, 1d8+5=9) Hit for 9 cold damage. The Spirit of Winter's Freezing Burst does not recharge: Freezing Burst recharge (1d6=5) It uses Frost Fury to make two slam attacks, one against Shorrin and one against Larinza: Slam vs Shorrin, then Larinza (1d20+6=13, 1d6+4+1d6=6, 1d20+6=11, 1d6+4+1d6=9) Both miss (forgot the -2 against Larinza again). It uses two minor actions to fire 4 shots with the ice rays: Blast of Cold vs Balth, Shorrin, Janus, Larinza (targets Reflex) (1d20+4=5, 2d8+1=11, 1d20+4=21, 2d8+1=12, 1d20+4=18, 2d8+1=6, 1d20+4=20, 2d8+1=16) Ouch.
