Metamagic on Limited Wish

Because metamagicked spells are de facto spells, I'm tempted to allow using (Limited) Wish for metamagicked spells. For example, you may use Limited Wish to duplicate an Empowered Cone of Acid. No feats needed. Quite powerful for both Wizards and Sorcerers, but after all, you pay 300/5,000 XP. And of course, Miracle gets an XP component, too. ;)
I agree. Also, being able to duplicate metamagic feats anyway pales in comparison to being able to duplicate all spells up to a certain level - including druid and cleric spells.

Does the character in question have the metamagic feat, or is that part of the wish?

To metamagic the Limited Wish obviously requires the feat. To metamagic the spell the LW is emulating doesn't, as long as it comes in under the 5th or 6th level limit.

Although Sir Hawkeye might argue about the "under the limit" bit.

I think if you're willing to cast the limited wish as a 9th level slot for the same xp cost (are those of you arguing for increased xp cost always this vindictive?) then you can duplicate the empowered flame strike. The key point (which was brought up by 'o Skoteinos) is that the actual level of the spell does not change. This is a double edged sword it hurts the player on things like saving throws and globes of invulnerability, but it helps them on things like this.
I agree.

Why would you raise the XP cost? What would you do if they wanted to metamagic it one level higher? What if they have epic levels and they wanted to quicken it? Would you require more XP then?

It' not my fault the systme is crazy like this! If they would just use terms like Preparation Level and Effective Level, the issue wouldn't come up. Note: This is an allusion to my beleaguered smackdown attempt in the Sultans of Smack thread.

Madness I say! Madness all!

'sides, if the silly mage wants to cast an Empowered Flame Strike instead of a Meteor Swarm...I say let him. :D

Then again, if the sorcerer doesn't know Meteor Swarm and doesn't want his spell to take a full-round action.....

I say that the LW can duplicate ANY arcane spell of level 6 or lower and divine spell of level 5 or lower. I would include all meta magic you want on the spell to determine it's level.

Also any meta magic on the casting of the LW effect the casting of the LW not the spell it emulates. That is to say a Silent LW would not be heard during casting, Limited Wishing for a silent Fireball does you no good as you had to be audible to cast LW.
