Is there a spell that allows a party to communicate that is more powerful then Message but not as powerful as Telepathic Bond? I'm looking for a way for the party scouts to talk back to the party based on what they are seeing..... I would love to see something with a longer duration then message (Say 1 hour per level) but without the long range of Telepathic Bond. Say a mile or so Max. Obviously it would also need a way to select who hears the messages. I've thought about building my own spell, but we are playing a round robin DM type game (5 people, each person has a character. For each short chapter of the story (3 to 4 sessions long) one person DMs and has their character sits out. Then they hand off the story/NPCs/Notes to the next person and who runs the next chapter.) which is working out great because nobody knows where the story is going, and we each have very different DMing styles... However that also means that anything custom has to be OKed by all five of us. And getting us to agree can sometimes be a pain. So I was looking to see if I missed a spell in some sourcebook before I wrote up my own and tried to get people to OK it. The Template I was working off of was something like: Message, Greater Transmutation [Language-Dependent] Level: Sor/Wiz ? Components: V, S, F Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level) Targets: One creature/level Duration: 1 hour/level Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No You can whisper messages and receive whispered replies with little chance of being overheard. Each creature who carries an item with your Arcane Mark on it, hears your messages. If more creatures within the spell range carry Marked items then there are valid targets the message is transmitted only to the targets that are closest to the caster. Magical silence, 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal (or a thin sheet of lead), or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks the spell. The message does not have to travel in a straight line. It can circumvent a barrier if there is an open path between you and the subject, and the path’s entire length lies within the spell’s range. The creatures that receive the message can whisper a reply that you hear. The spell transmits sound, not meaning. It doesn’t transcend language barriers. Note: To speak a message, you must mouth the words and whisper, possibly allowing observers the opportunity to read your lips. Focus: A short piece of copper wire.
