Chapter I Page Six
OOC: Although there is lack of cover, there is some concealment in the mist. Abdiel’s Hide check is allowed. And as explained in the OOC thread, no coup de grace on the chains. Inspire courage attempt did pass the DC, but I don’t think Karita can be considered an “ally,” quite yet. Rikandur, you are free to try another attempt once the character’s are acquainted and when/if another battle approaches.
The pirate sneered at Torak and sheathed his weapon at his hip. “I do not care what your name is,” he replied, though he stepped out of Torak’s way, eyeing the vardatch. He was a large Erenlander with short-cropped hair that clung to his skull as if a small, wet animal had taken residence there. Small eyes peered at Torak through the mist from beneath thick eyebrows, the sneer not one reserved just for Torak, but a perpetual one that he seemed to wear for all company. It deepened, though, as Torak began to saw at his chains with the serrated edge of the vardatch. “You are an orc and a fool,” he said, kneeling next to the dead orc and retrieving a set of keys looped around a belt. Disgustedly, the pirate tossed them in Torak’s direction just as the chains holding Torak to the deck tumbled away. Turning his back on Torak and the beastwoman, he held his sword ready and peered into the mist in case any other orcs, unchained or bloodthirsty, approached. The manacles fell from Torak’s hands and feet after trying several ill-fitting keys in the rusted locks. Cautiously he approached the beastwoman and repeated the process with her manacles. The iron rings tumbled to the wooden planks and she could now freely move. “Who goes there?” growled the pirate as two shapes materialized from the mist on either side of the three huddled close. A Dorn and an Erenlander, stripped naked. Seeing their emaciated frames, the pirate lowered his weapon and immediately reached out for the younger man, the Erenlander. “Are you okay, boy?” he said, concerned. “Were the two of you captured? We thought this was a cargo ship, but . . .” The pirate shook his head, his hands shaking as a thought began to form in his mind. He turned to the Dorn. “Are there . . . more? Down there?” he probed hesitatingly in the norther language, nodding his head to the stairs near the center of the ship, leading to the hold below.
