It did do something. It looked cool. Heck, I was even a bit nervous. Then I won initiative. :D Just opened up the ol' 1E MM. Adult dragons are 51-100 years old. Its not like it spent decades perfecting its "Crap! No wings!" maneuver...this was the first and only time that happened to Old Whitey. Only 5% of white dragons could cast 1st level spells. This wasn't one of them. The DM nearly crapped himself when he saw how much damage I did in the opening round (remember, aside from a high rate of attacks from Specialization, 1E also let you get a free first shot if your bow was nocked at the start of combat) and knew there was nothing that could be done to save the beast at that point. Its breath weapon was useless, because 1E dragons only do their HP in dmg, and it barely had any left. Neither you nor Xarlen liked how the DM described the dragon collapsing into the ice, but what you don't seem to be taking into consideration is the fact that the dragon was going to die the next round. Period. Anything the dragon did (no matter how cool or "draconic") to prolong its life another round just meant that it got to watch me casually nock another arrow and finish it off. The DM gave it some dignity, it was killed by a fluke tumble of a mighty Frost Giant king, rather than being put down like a lame horse.
