Miniature Misadventures

I've done thousands of minis over the years, so here' some advice: NEVER use citadel sprays for sealing a mini.
To provide some counterbalance here, I've done quite a few minis in my time and I've never had a problem with citadel matte spray. It's made by Krylon just like their primers.
As another poster mentioned, they use the same equipment to fill the cans for both their sealers and spray paints, so that when you use the sealer, paint residue is often in the bottle which ruins a mini.
This may be true, but I would imagine it's common practice. Like I said before, I've never had a problem. And remember, it's Krylon.
Not to mention you end up paying WAY too much for a tiny can of sealer.
Agree with you there. Just like you mentioned, I usually head to Micheals (or Hobby Lobby or wherever is in your area) to stock up Krylon when they have it on sale. But I also spring for Testors Dullcote as my second spray. Nothing works better for a beautiful true matte finish.

Another tip I liked the sound of but never tried:

Spray your minis with a gloss varnish. It's a hrder varnish and wears better than matte. It doesn't look as good tho, so when that's good and dry, spray again with the matte varnish. That knocks down the gloss, and makes the minis look right.

Here's the kicker: when the matte starts to wear off, you'll see the gloss showing thru and know it's time to spray the minis again!
