I have a acquired miniatures in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00, 10, and 20s. I have 12mm, 20mm, 1", 25mm, 28mm, 32mm, 35mm, 3", 6", and 12" in my collection. I have giants smaller than other medium creatures, and a Tressym that is technically gargantuan. I have a spectrum of fire giant sizes that cover a very wide spectrum - and I use them all. My current pet project is to find a good miniature for a roc that matches the size listed in the MM - so a 3'6" wingspan on the 'miniature'. I found a stuffed eagle, but I think I can do better. I have tubs that fill up 4 floor to ceiling shelving units of minis, plus a display case with the big uns. During a non-COVID era, when I'm actually using miniatures, over half of the monsters I bring to the table are homebrew. This keeps experienced players on their toes as they do not know what to expect when they see a merbunny with a unicorn horn swim up to the side of a ship. It also allows me to provide something unique to add to a battle when I have all of these different sizes of miniatures. I also have a large number of black disks of various sizes. I use them frequently to indicate something is larger than the mini represents. With these approaches and tools at my disposal, there are are only a small handful of miniatures I regret buying (and those are because of durability issues, mostly). This is not a problem. It is an opportunity.
