Reaper calls It’s squid headed race the Bathalian. Usefull for a Call of Cthulhu game where you need a cultist in a cthulhu mask They work pretty well for a D&D mind flayers

The figure looks nice. The left hand holds an icky looking staff of tentacles, while the right is either stroking or cleaning a facial tentacle.

The model will likely be a one piece miniature like most of reaper’s man sized offering . The only hiderances of this are

1. Taking the head off this mini to give a human head will be VERY difficult
2. You may want to buy this in store where you can make sure the staff is NOT bent. Reaper uses no foam in most minis so staves & swords tend to bend in mail order shipping .

I will tell you more about this mini when I get my psudopods on It

if your FLGS won't carry reaper, kill them!

Very cool. Just to let you know, though, the Bathalians have been around for quite a while. This from their 2100 line:

I like the newer figure in your photo better though - just has more character.

Bathalians do make excellent mind flayers. You should have seen the face of one of my players, who works at my FLGS, when I presented 6 of them for purchase one day :D

I really wouldn't worry too much about bent swords/staves etc from reaper. They do get bent but the metal they use has always stood up to being straightened out IME. I have about 30 Reaper mins right now and most every hand held object comes bent. I have yet to have one break or even get a crack. Excellent quality stuff here.

I lost the spear/ staff tip of this mini thanks to shipping. It still not a bad fig, but it sorta irks me reaper doesn't use foam [or at least old newspaper] in thier packaging.

I also have many, many Reaper mini's. The weapons all came bent, and were all easily straightened out.

In my experience, Reaper puts out a lot of really good sculpts that are perfect for D&D.

I also like reaper, but I worry if I order them from sotres online. I have never had a sword break, but there have been several times in stores that I have passed up a mini because of excessive disfiguration and I was worried about it breaking. Overall they are my favorite mini company.

I can tell you from physically going to Reaper HQ that those kind of things are next to impossible to even get out of the mold straight. from the mold the minis are place in large boxes all filled with the same mini. We're talking hundreds on the same one. By the time they make it to packaging I can imagine most swords and the like are already bent.

They're not that hard to bend back though. Just make sure you do that before you prime them.
