Garnath

First Post
Hey
(Edited to 4th edition ;) )

Im about to build a Paladin (Minotaur) so he is going the Str based (I dont see a Mino with 14 or less in str
wink.gif
) and shiny Lawfull good.

When I read about STR-Paladin attacks, prayers/encounter in PH, it seems like the Str. based Pals has no goodies for many levels, so I might start with a dip with a Cleric... And it here I need help!!!

Str based (Avenging Paladin - Champion of Order or ?)
I have these stat to start out with (these are not incl race bonus)
16 14 13 12 11 10
(Minotaur gets +2 in Str and Con as extra)

So: my proposed STR Pal lv 10:

Minotaur (Paladin 10)
Str 19 (16 +2 race +1 lv 8 bonus)
Con 12 (10 + 2 race)
Dex 11
Int 10
Wis 14 (13 +1 lv 4 bonus)
Cha 14

Feats:

Power Attack
+2 damage for -2 attack

Improved Initiative
+4 Initiative

Weapon Focus Hammer
+1 damage.

Alertness
No combat advantage when surprised, +2 Perception

Initiate of the Faith

? (nedd one more)

--------------------

At Will Powers:
Valiant Strike (Paladin)
Holy Strike (Paladin)

Encounter Lv1 + Lv3 + Lv7:
Wrathful Thunder (Cleric 1) ??
Piercing Smite (Pal 1)
Spilt the sky (cleric 3)

Daily lv1 + Lv5:
Avenging Flame (Cleric 1) ??
? (nedd one more)
? (nedd one more)

Utillity 1 + 6 + 10:
Bless (Cleric 1) ???
? (need one more)
? (need one more

Racial:
Ferocity: Make basic melee attack on death. Oversized: Use larger weapons as your size.
Goring Charge: Does 1d6+Str and knocks target prone.

-any guidance/critique will be much appreciated

Apologies, but you need to go back and read the Player's Handbook more carefully. You are not building a 4th edition character. Forget notions of 3rd edition as well.

You need to decide your character's "class" identity at 1st level (paladin) and you can pick some cleric powers via feats (PH 208).

To clarify, the problems with this build:

- There's no such thing as a "cleric 3/paladin 7." You're either a paladin with the cleric multiclass feat(s), or a cleric with the paladin multiclass feat(s).

- You add +1 to two different ability scores at level 4 and level 8.

- You need the multiclass feat for your chosen second class before you can take Adept Power and Novice Power. If you're starting as a paladin, that means you need Initiate of the Faith. If you're a cleric, you need Soldier of the Faith.

- As already mentioned, you can't multiclass like a 3E character. Assuming you take Novice Power and Adept Power (which means you need to sacrifice one of the feats you have listed, because remember you need Initiate of the Faith first), you should have one cleric encounter power and one cleric daily power (remember these replace your paladin powers and aren't extra). You cannot have a cleric utility power without taking the Acolyte Power feat.

Also, Str-based paladins get plenty of "goodies." There are two Strength-based choices at every level except for the levels 1, 5, and 9 daily power choices. I'm not sure why you feel the need to dip into cleric for Strength-based attacks.

hey
hmmm how?
I dont have PH 3.5 edition only 4th...

where do you see my mistake?

Cheers

There is no "Cleric 3 Paladin 7". If you select paladin as your class, you can only select cleric powers with feats and vice versa. Your encounter powers are incorrect, you can only select 1 power, not multiple. Also, you get 2 ability points at appropriate levels (PH 27, 29).

but if you are going to go with a Paladin with the initiate of the failth feat, do consider radiant servent as your paragon path. Gives lots of goodies when you use a power that has the radiant keyword (most notably to crit on a 19 or 20).

and the paladin has plenty of those.

For one, you can't be a Cleric 3 Paladin 7; multiclassing doesn't work that way in 4E. Multiclassing requires a feat (p.208 of the PHB). Your character would be a Paladin 10 with the Initiate of the Faith feat.

Also, you haven't given yourself enough powers. A 10th level character should have three each of Encounter/Daily/Utility powers (I think you mixed yourself up here by adding in those cleric levels).

Also, why does a 10th level character have level 1 powers? Read the Retraining section on p. 28 of the PHB.

You've skipped reading some important parts of the PHB methinks.

Also he's missing a level 10 utility power.

Ahem...

PHB p. 28 said:
You can replace a power with another power of the same type (at-will attack power, encounter attack power, daily attack power, or utility power), of the same level or lower, and from the same class...

You're thinking of replacing powers, which allows you to choose a higher-level power to replace a lower-level one, but the first chance you get to do that is level 13.
