Miracle and Metamagic?

Could you use miracle to cast a metamagiced version of a normal spell? Assuming the spell was still within the limits of the level cap. Such as an 2x Empowered Magic Missle or some such? A waste of a miracle but with some spells this could come in handy..

Certainly debatable, but I would rule no. If Miracle is used to replicate a spell, then that spell is automatically heightened to 9th level, complete with a higher save DC.

Therefore, a metamagic feat of sorts is already being added whenever you cast Miracle. Adding something on top of it would push it beyond 9th level.

I don't see why not. Miracle and Wish both have spell level limits defined for what they can simulate. As long as the spell with the level boost from the metamagic was still within those guidelines, go for it.

I'd let it happen. It is a miracle, after all. However, I wouldn't let metamagic-affecting abilities (Incantrix, Improved Metamagic) reduce the cost forthe duplicated spell.

My rule for that is to apply the Metamagic feat to the emulating spell, not the emulated spell.

You want to duplicate an Empowered Fireball with Limited Wish? You cast an Empowered Limited Wish.

You want an Extended Summon Monster IV using Shades? Cast an Extended Shades.

The power of such spells is found in flexibility, the ability to cast spells you would normally not be able to cast, and the effectively hightened spell level.

Plus, the spells themselves state nothing about metamagic feats.

I would not try to read more power into these spells.

Incantrix? Improved Metamagic? What are these feats, and what books are they in?

Icantrix is a prestige class in Magic of Faerun. Improved Metamagic is a class feature of the Incantrix and it is also a feat in the Epic Level Handbook.
