Hi all! I haven't posted here in approximately a dog's age, but this seems like the appropriate forum to talk about a new game my husband and I have put together, and will be Kickstarting in August 2024. Mists & Memory is a noir tabletop role-playing game about an agency of cunning anthropomorphic Investigators seeking their fortunes—and their memories—on the streets of a city perennially being destroyed and created, surrounded by a malevolent Mist. It is a world in which you have to assemble yourself, day by day, from the scraps left behind by yesterday. My husband refers to it as "come for the cute furry animals, stay for the existential horror." It's set in a world analogous to the 1920s, except you dwell in a single city surrounded by Mist--and that Mist can roll in at any time and remove a building, and all the people in it, leaving. . . an empty field. Another building filled with frantic strangers. Who knows? Except the people who were there are soon forgotten by most others--except for you. You remember things* You're an Investigator. I'd love to talk with folks here about the game's journey from D&D 5.0 (with the memory system) to BitD (with a memory system) to Illuminated Worlds/Candela Obscura (yep, we have permission to use their stuff!) . . . with a memory system. What's this memory system? Well, you start with five memories that encapsulate who you ARE. And as time and traumas pass, your memories can be stolen. Eaten. Dissolved. Making you a different person entirely. You might have the opportunity to use someone else's memories to save off the horror of dissolving into the Mist. . . but who you become, with someone else's memories inside you? Is another story entirely. Our Kickstarter is available to be followed, but all the tiers and such will go live mid-August. Our cover art will be unveiled mid-July. I'm so excited to talk about this, and with people who will understand that this is a labor of love that's taken four years to get off the ground.
