Believed to be the product of a fell magicians experimenting gone wrong the Phase Ripper is a hungry and voracious hunter whose prime prey tend to be elves and man. </p><p></p><p>There are many tales in legend that speak of the Phase Ripper, as a ghostly leopard, or wraithen Cougar. Many sightings of this nature find their roots in the Phase Ripper whose disappearance and reappearance have given them an Eldritch facade. </p><p></p><p><strong>COMBAT</strong></p><p></p><p>Phase Ripper’s dwell and hunt on the Ethereal Plane Material Plane. Once a Ripper locates prey, however, it shifts to the Ethereal Plane to attack, attempting to catch its victim flat-footed. The Ripper shifts in, Attacks its victim, and retreats quickly back to the Ethereal Plane.</p><p></p><p>Rippers enjoy shadowing their victims in a game of cat and mouse before finally moving in for that last fatal attack. A Ripper will always try and catch its victim helpless, and has commonly been known to pounce on travelers as they sleep. Phase Rippers are pack hunters, and are only rarely found alone. </p><p></p><p><strong>Ethereal Jaunt (Su): </strong>A Phase Ripper can shift from the Ethereal to the Material Plane as a free action, and shift back again as a move-equivalent action (or during a move-equivalent action). The ability is otherwise identical with ethereal jaunt cast by a 15th-level sorcerer.</p><p></p><p><strong>Frightful Presence (Ex):</strong> A Phase Ripper can inspire terror in its victim simply by looking into their eyes. Affected creatures must succeed at a Will save (DC 17) or become shaken, remaining shaken until they leave the area of effect.</p><p></p><p><strong>Throat-Rip (Ex):</strong> A Phase Ripper always takes the opportunity to deliver a coup de grace on a helpless opponent—one who is bound, held, sleeping, paralyzed, caught flat footed, or unconscious. As a full-round action, the Phase Ripper delivers an automatic critical hit. If the defender survives the damage, he must still make a Fortitude save (DC 12 + Damage) or die. If the coup de grace kills the defender, the Phase Ripper has ripped the opponent’s throat open. A character killed in this fashion can still be returned to life with a <em>resurrection</em> spell, but not with <em>raise dead</em>.</p><p></p><p><strong>Skills:</strong> Phase Rippers receive a +1 racial bonus to Listen, Move Silently, and Spot checks, and a +2 racial bonus to Hide checks.</p></blockquote><p></p>
