modern treasure hunting

This morning I read an article on CNN about a record-setting $500 Million treasure recovered from a shipwreck. That got the GM ideas flowing, and I quickly rattled off five adventure ideas inspired by the idea of modern treasure hunting on the high seas. I thought it would be fun (not to mention useful to GMs) if other people wanted to jump on and add to the list.

Critters:
Deep Ones (chuthulu-esque)
Creature from Black Lagoon
Abyss style Aliens
The Thing style alien is set loose.

Modern:
Real Pirates
Illuminati/Masons/Other trying to keep people from learning a secret (aka National Treasure).
Strong Military (as in U.S. or British or Chinese, etc.) tries to seize the wreckage/treasure.
Impending disaster... earthquake, storm, etc threatens to push wreckage into ultra-deep chasm (beyond reach of modern recovery equipment).
Strange Plague ravages crew - Tutt style curse... or worse?!
