So, knowing that these two products are on the way, do we yet have an ETA? Also, are there any spoilers on how the system will work for them? Will there be more classes, or will the magic system especially try to stay in line with the class system established in modern20?

One of my design goals for Modern20 was to never need any more classes.

Ever.

So that one, I can definitively answer.

Occupations and Backgrounds will do the heavy lifting of modifying the classes as required for various supplements.

I will also say, if you'd like a preview of how Modern20 will handle FX, one is very, very close at hand.

My Psionics-conspiracy setting, The Hunters, has been handed in to Chris Davis and will premier as the next issue of the Modern Dispatch.

It's 13 pages long, and features a full Psionics system for Modern20, along with a campaign model.

Oh good. One of my biggest beefs with D20modern was the sudden proliferation of advanced classes and prestige classes. I'll have to give the mentioned product a look.

I got the Modern20 pdf yesterday, and it looks good so far, although the skills are much different from what I am used to. Anyway, what I would be interested in, is an adaptation of Blood & Relics to Modern20, where FX is concerned.

Awesome! I can't wait for Hunters to come out. So does this mean that the Dispatch will continue to craft Modern Mayhem for Modern20?

Regards,
Walt

While I can't give you a definite ETA for Vehicles20 (very very busy, but we're getting there), I'll can show you a background and a couple of sample occupations I have written.

Grease monkey
You grew up around cars. Hell, your mom and dad joke that you were born with a wrench in your hands. In kindergarten, while other kids were drawing stick figures you were drawing camaros and trans-ams. You could rebuild a carburetor blindfolded by the time you were 10, so it was only natural the first job you’d get would be working in a garage doing tune-ups and oil changes. After a year, you were rebuilding engines and installing lift kits on your buddy’s pick up truck. Some people crave a cushy job in a cramped corner office high above the city. Not you. A cold beer, NASCAR on Sundays and a steady paycheck suits you just fine.
Skills (choose three of the following): Crime, Engineering, Firearms, Influence, Perception, Streetwise, Unarmed, Vehicles, Weapons.
Base Wealth: 4

------------------
Fighter Pilot
You pilot combat aircraft in service of your country.
Professional Skills: Leadership, Perception,Vehicles
Improved Feats: Awareness: You add your Will saving throw to your Perception skill checks at one level higher than normal. If a skill’s DC is based on your Perception, you add your modified Will save to the DC. Evasive Maneuvers: You may use your Vehicles skill +15 as your air vehicle’s Defense rather than your class-based Defense bonus. Evasive Maneuvers may only be used in situations where
you would not be denied your Dexterity bonus. Using this feat is a move action. Catastrophic Kill: When using this feat you can make a called shot on a standard action rather than a full-round action.
Occupation Specific Perks: Eagle Eyes: You gain a +1 attack bonus when engaging ground forces. Grace under Pressure: You can add your Will save modifier to Vehicle checks when attempting to regain control of your aircraft.

Stunt driver
You work in the entertainment industry as a stunt driver.
Professional Skills: Influence, Perception, Vehicles
Improved Feats: Agility Training: +2 Dexterity; Stunt Driving: By spending one action point, you can negate a check when performing a stunt you know. Move-By Action: when conducting a move-by attack
from a vehicle, you gain a +2 bonus on your attack roll.

The magic system will be based directly off the Magic skill presented in M20.

Spells, rituals, and any "FX" Item creation abilities will all be able to be chosen via perks. There will be feats which can improve these abilities to a certain extent. But generally speaking, it will all revolve around the characters' magic skill.
