Hi guys,
The very latest supplement for the Armageddon 2089: Total War RPG has just landed on my desk. Armoured Companies is a full colour, 128 page supplement which should be appearing in your local stores, well, about now actually.
The book kicks off with a look at the role of armoured vehicles in the Armageddon War and reasons why they are still in use in the age of WarMeks. The newer classes of vehicles, such as the Heavy Bombardment Tanks and Full Assault Tanks are detailed, along with a fairly extensive section on armoured tactics - this should prove exceedingly useful in your games. APCs are also covered, along with other heavy metal.
The Characters chapter introduces new core classes into the game, specifically tailored to fighting from armoured vehicles - the Tank Commander, the Tanker and Armoured Technician. Variations on original skills in the game are detailed to better suit armoured vehicles, such as combining the Electronic Warfare skill with land shielding and the Technical skill with overcharging certain systems. A variety of new feats expands characters based around armoured vehicles and for those looking to specialise away from WarMeks, prestige classes include the Arclighter, Elite Commander, Motorised Infantryman and , everyone's favourite, the Tank Master.
Armoured Companies can be used as either a supplement to a WarMek mercenary company (fleshing out the armoured elements of your troops) or with players creating a purely armoured mercenary company, fighting as the underdog on battlefields against powerful WarMeks. It takes a lot of skill and firepower to achieve this successfully but players will soon be rewarded when they can consistently take on a WarMek force and win.
The Vehicle Design chapter does for tanks, APCs and lighter vehicles what the Mek Construction chapter did in the main rulebook. Literally any type of land-based vehicle can be constructed with this system, allowing players to customise to their heart's content. Following this is Unmanned Vehicles - UAVs were touched upon in the main rulebook with Meks finding them valuable allies, but here the door is well and truly open for players to try some very sneaky tactics. Once again, a construction system is included with players able to build wheeled, walking, flying or submersible unmanned vehicles.
Equipment and Technology takes a look at all the lovely gear and weaponry that can be strapped onto armoured vehicles, from the humble 10mm machine gun to ultraviolet lasers, railguns and hostile environment modifications. This is backed up by the Armoured World of 2089, an essay on the various companies and nations, with their attitude towards armoured vehicles - there are plenty who cannot afford expensive WarMeks and so have frighteningly large tank forces!
The Armoured Vehicles chapter details specific classes of vehicle, ready for play, from the small General Defence Eagle scout/attack UAV and Moore Limited Bradley III Rapid Attack Tank, to the larger, more powerful (and more expensive!) General Defence Thunder Heavy Assault Tank and Volksmecha Panzer RT.
In many ways we have saved the best to last - a chapter on Supertanks or Super Heavy Tanks to give their full name. Massive armoured vehicles capable of mounting the thickest armour and multiple main weapon systems, rivaling WarMeks in weight and firepower. For those chasing the dream of an armoured company, Supertanks are heaven!
Armoured Companies is priced at $24.95 and is appearing in shops this week.
