Hi guys,

Hot from the press is the latest supplement to the Armageddon 2089 RPG - the Soldier's Companion, due to arrive in your local store in just a few days.

The Soldier's Companion aims to do for the humble infantry what Armoured Companies did for tanks and the High Frontier did for aerospace, as well as add lots of extra goodies covering espionage and covert operations. For the first time, you can sneak in where Meks fear to tread!

The book kicks off with a look at how infantry are used in the Armageddon War, from state armies and corporate security forces, to mercenary companies. New specialisations for foot soldiers have been added (Chemical Operations, Military Police, Signals, etc), as well as the structure of these organisations and how the Soldier and Officer character classes fit within them. Full rules are given for adopting time honoured formations on the battlefield and the types of missions infantry are expected to accomplish are covered.

New mercenary company creation rules allow players to begin their own infantry war, either as a stand alone campaign, or to supplement their growing Mek companies (now well supported with both tanks, aircraft and space-borne assets). No little space has also been devoted to methods of dealing with Meks and how to survive on the modern battlefield.

The Advanced Operative chapter allows you to fill your ranks of infantrymen with a variety of specialists, such as the Heavy Weapons Specialist, Career Officer, Tracker Officer, Land Warrior, Marksman, Scout, Electronic Warrior, Infiltration Specialist, Sleeper Agent, C3 Officer, Spook, and Master Spy. In short, you can now stat up all those characters whose role takes place away from the front battleline and will cause your mek-driving players a lot of headaches (they always seem to get far less brave when outside their cockpits!). Soldier Feats servers to provide many more specialisations that individual characters can learn in order to improve their effectiveness to their army - everything from Chokeholds to Icebreakers are provided for here.

Covert Missions are going to be where a lot of the player action is and a full chapter has been dedicated to this style of play. Training packages are detailed before players launch themselves into this deadly arena, and the major intelligence organisations of the Armageddon War are covered (yes, you can see what the CIA is up to in 2089!). Information has also been provided for combining Meks with covert ops, so players can infiltrate enemy territory in their Meks, then leave their mighty war machines to take the fight to the other side.

The Equipment chapter is a gunhead's delight, with weapons and equipment designed to increase the survivability of the humble soldier on the battlefield. From the latest assault rifles and heavy weapons, to specialist ammunition and surveillance equipment, it is all here.

Due to popular request, bulky Power Armour suits - effectively miniature warmeks - are detailed in the next chapter. While this new system may allow an infantryman to feel like a god of war on the battlefield, Power Armour is still highly experimental and comes with its own unique drawbacks. However, for raw offensive potential, there is little that can beat it.

The final chapter covers Unconventional Warfare, providing full details on how outnumbered and outgunned infantry can continue to fight despite desperate odds. Plenty of scope for players languishing in Kazakhstan there. . .

The Soldier's Companion is a 128 page supplement for the Armageddon 1089 RPG, priced at $21.95. It will be appearing in your local stores in just a few days.
