Hi guys, More Babylon 5 goodness reached the Mongoose offices this week - and I know many of you have been waiting with baited breath for The Rangers. This is a 128 page book written by August Hahn packed full of everything you wil need to run successful Rangers campaigns or create good Rangers characters. The extended Introduction looks into what it means to be a Ranger and comes complete with the Full Creed of the Anla'shok (if I were GM, I would make the players take this pledge. . .). The History of the Anla'shok follows, from their birth at the time of Valen (which includes full details on the Babylon 4 station, if you should want to set a campaighn during this time in history, through the next thousand years as their powers and prestige waned, right up to the 'current' timeline of first fighting the Shadow War and then becoming an intrinsic part of the Intersteallar Alliance. Anla'shok Directives guides the reader through the practices and methods of the Rangers, from first report to last contact. It shows you how one becomes a Ranger, the ways of training and what happens upon graduation. The Anla'shok fleet is also listed, which may also be of some interest to Call to Arms players (we may well knock a list or two up for these!), and the various ranks and hierarchy of the Anla'shok are explained. Anla'shok Technology will be of particular interest to players. It starts by showing how basic Ranger equipment has changed throughout the years - and then goes on to detail that equipment! As well as the famous Denn'bok, there are precision lasers, fusion rifles, stunners and the razor sharp Ventar. here are also communicators, multiscanners, infiltration sets, antenna arrays and a wide variety of other equipment that ensures a Ranger is able to complete his tasks. There are also some vehicles made available to Rangers, from humble scout sleds and flyers to heavy fighters and, of course, the White Star. New versions of the White Star are detailed, including Command variants, gunships and the White Star super heavy fighter. Basic deck plans are featured (but stay tuned for our new B5 Deck Plan series due throughout 2005!), along with descriptions of each major location on board. Important Sites of the Anla'shok takes a trip through the galaxy to uncover some of the most scared places for the Rangers - Tuzanor (the City of Sorrows), Kaddora (Graveyard of the Anla'shok), and typical Anla'shok caches. This leads onto the Ranger Characters chapter, which focuses on players and their own creations. There are now two ways a character can become a Ranger - either as a prestige class (slightly revised from that presented in Point of No Return) or as a base class if you are playing in the era of the ISA. However, for characters who stay the duration and survive, there are now prestige classes within the Rangers themselves - you now have the option of following the path of the Denn'bok Master, the Anla'shok Officer or the Ranger Infiltrator. New feats are also made available to those who can follow the path of the Ranger faithfully, from gaining Improved Authority to new moves with the Denn'bok. The book winds up with some advice on firstly playing Ranger characters and then, for Games Masters, how to run Ranger campaigns. The Rangers is priced at $24.95 and will be appearing in your local games stores and book shops in around 2-3 weeks.
