Bester is the quintessential Gothic anti-hero. He's Victor Frankenstein, a man who's blind to the harm he's doing because he believes the end justifies the means. Bester doesn't think he's evil, he thinks that telepaths everywhere are being oppressed (which they are), and sees himself as their savior. If some mundanes have to die, so he can protect his fellows, then... *shrug* He'd make a great Darklord in Ravenloft. :D Yes, Season 5 was weak because of production problems. TNT held off on their renewal decision until literally the last minute. So, while waiting to hear back, JMS squashed part of his storyline to fit into Season 4, so there could be some semblance of completion. The battle for Earth was supposed to be in the first 1/3 of S5, originally, and leave more time to bring the teeps to B5 in a logical manner. And then Claudia Christian bailed. Well, to be fair, there were mistakes made on both sides (based on postings to the newsgroup). Claudia's agent was trying to hold out for more money, which wasn't forthcoming. And then, the contract just expired. JMS found out after it was too late, and CC wouldn't sign back on once she was out (though it's unclear whether that was because of money or just the principle that she felt ignored). So, more rewrites. All things said and done, JMS did a tremendous job with all the difficulties thrown his way. As for plots, there's plenty of things to do with B5!

Babylon 5 - Duh.
