Hi guys, More Lone Wolf goodness from Mongoose Publishing due this week! This time, the Darklands comes under inspection from the pen of Lone Wolf RPG designer, August Hahn. The book kicks off with a look at the Geography of the Darklands, starting with how one actually gains entry into this realm safely. Full rules are given for avoiding patrols and forts - or not. . . Beyond this, each province of the Darklands is covered in great detail, giving you an idea of just what waits in store for players who dare venture there. From Aargataag to Yr-Naoga, each region is covered. Following on from the provinces are the common dangers of the Darklands, including the Blighted Wind, deadly terrain, Paths of Confusion and Death, the trackless nature of the region and Wandering North. In addition to this, any character who is not Evil in allegiance will suffer in other ways too, including the Bane of Life, Malaise and, a new statistic to keep track of - Corruption and its debilitating effects. The next chapter will be a most popular one - ever wanted to know just what Helgedad was like? We have a complete chapter (and map!) of the dark city for you! The full history of the city and its many locations are all covered, including the compounds of the individual Darklords. Darklands Characters takes a look at some of the common individuals of the region, and provides the option of either having richly detailed NPCs, or players chancing their luck with Evil characters. Up to now, your players may have been battling Warriors and Adepts, believing them to be true servants of the Darklords. Ha! They have no idea. . . New classes to cover these evil beings include the Dark Cultist and the Dark Warrior (Drakkarim - which we have just commissioned miniatures for, incidentally). If that is not enough to scare your players, we introduce a new concept for the Lone Wolf RPG in this sourcebook - Advanced Classes. For the Darklands, these include the Breedmaster, Cult Leader and, my personal favourite, the Death Knight. If you think your level-scaling Kai Lord is good, wait until you see these guys. . . The Darklords. It had to be done - this is a complete chapter on the Darklords, their histories, traits. . . and stats. Yes, you now have the option to challenge your players with the Darklords themselves (expect a high body count. . .). Each is superbly illustrated, from Chlanzor, Darklord of the Crawling Fire, to Zhanshal, Darklord of the Bitter Wind. You really don't want to meet any of these guys. Tools of Evil looks at the whole spectrum of equipment found in the Darklands. These go from the mundane, such as the Black Iron Bow and Dark Axe, through siege weapons and armour (including Drakkarim assault armour), to the magical. The Cowl of Naarthane, Nadziranim Power Crystal and Truth Shards - they are all here. Legendary Items are those you can use as the basis of an entire campaign and include many notable items from the gamebooks, such as the Doomstones of Agarash and the Helshexag. Creatures of Darkness expands upon the bestiary of the main rulebook to include many of the more bizarre and deadly creations of the Darklords. The separate armies of the Darklords and their compositions are covered in great detail, and the Nadziranim (Mad Sorcerers of the Darklords) are introduced. Beyond this are Agarashi, Crocaryx, various sub-breeds of Giak, Mind Reapers, Xagash and many, many more. The book winds up with a revised character sheet to cover the new rules within and a complete index. The Darklands is a 128 page sourcebook priced at $21.95 and will be available this week from all good games stores and book shops.
