Hi guys, The first supplement to the Conan RPG should be just making its way into your local games stores and book shops this week. The Scrolls of Skelos is a 128 page softback, resplendent in the same full colour format as the main rulebook - it is a real treat for the eyes! It kicks off with an expanded Sorcery chapter, extending that of the main rulebook. A random spell table is provided, ready to populate scrolls and spellbooks in your campaign and there are plenty of new spells and styles of sorcery - Cosmic Sorcery, Counterspells, Curses, Divination, Hypnotism, Immortality, Nature Magic, Prestidigitation and Summonings are now all fully fleshed out. Feats of Sorcery will allow Scholars to fully specialise in their chosen fields, and there are also some new feats here for the monsters that appear later on in this tome. This leads onto Permanent Sorcery, magic of the very highest levels that does not dissipate within minutes or hours. This includes the Pictish ritual known as Smoke of Hell's Fire, the creation of Sorcerous Creatures (every mad wizard's dream) and, of course, magic items - artefacts far more valued and potent than those in other fantasy settings. These truly evoke a sense of mystery and purpose. Sorcerous Items follows on from this chapter to take a look at a few of the unique items that populate the Hyborian Kingdoms within long forgotten vaults or in the depths of great temples. The renowned Book of Skelos is covered along with a myriad of other creations, such as the Books of Vathelos, the Heart of Ahriman, the Serpent Ring of Set and Tulwar of Amir Khurum. More mundane, but no less unusual items are also featured, such as the Ebon Staff of Set, Green Fire Stones and Silver Weapons, as well as various drugs, herbal preparations and alchemical items. Plenty of tools for an aspiring Scholar to get into trouble with. . . Speaking of trouble, Creatures of Sorcery introduces some of the very worst monstrosities to have appeared in R.E Howard's tales. There is the Gelid Abomination, Black Lotus, Chakan, Child of Jhebbal Sag, Crawler of Xuthotland many different demons and Demon Lords. If you have been reading (or re-reading) the original Conan tales recently, you will feel right at home with this chapter. The Sorcerous Culture chapter inspects the various groups, cults and covens known throughout the Hyborian Kingdoms, and introduces the arcane religions of Khosatral Khel, Skelos, Thaug and Yajur. Here we also introduce the first prestige classes for the Conan RPG - before you run screaming (!), take note of what we have covered, as these are truly 'prestigious'. There is the Lord of the Black Ring, Master of the Black Circle, and Sorcerer of the Scarlet Circle. . . Wizards, Witches and Shamans of the Hyborian Age details some of the significant sorcerers that existed at the time of Conan. Presented are, fully detailed (stat-wise and history) and rendered in art, Atali (along with Frost Giants), Hadrathus, The Master of Yimsha, Nathok the Veiled One, Thoth-Amon (eep!), Tsotha-Lanti, Xaltotun, along with rules for Mummies of Ahriman. The book winds up with the Help for Games Masters chapter, showing just how to integrate magic into a Conan campaign without destroying the atmosphere. The progression of magic-wielding characters is covered with helpful advice, along with how characters may deal themselves with demons. Some very quick rules are presented for the buying of magic items (doesn't happen) and there are details on how to run aerial combat. The Scrolls of Skelos is priced at $24.95 and is available this week from your local games store and book shop.
