Hi guys,

A strange thing, coincidence. The same month that the Quintessential Elf sells out, and becomes out of print, the Quintessential Elf II: Advanced Tactics comes out!

Written by Shannon Kalvar, the Quintessential Elf II is jam-packed full of player option goodness and is our first 'racial' Quint II to boot! So, let's see what Shannon has in store for us. . .

Racial Paths allow a character who fulfils certain prerequisites and continues to take certain skills and feats throughout their career to gain certain benefits (rewarding you for staying on a path that may not be obvious to the typical power-play philosophy). For example, an player may decide his elf will become a Spirit of Chaos, forcing him to take certain feats and skills (as well as introducing some restrictions in play). In compensation, he may gain various abilities such as the Aura of Chaos, Changing Touch and Eye for Change. Other possibilities for paths include the Spirit of Crystal, Spirit of Darkness, Spirit of Light, Spirit of Magic, Spirit of Shadow, Spirit of the Stars, Spirit of Wild Magic, Spirit of the Wilderness and the Spirit of Wisdom.

Multiclassed Elves looks at some unusual class combinations that suit their racial abilities and culture particularly well. By following a strict multiclass path, an elf will be able to swap out some of the usual class features for something more to his liking and idea of character. In this way, an Enchanter/Fighter can become a Bright Blade, giving him the chance of gaining a Spirit Steed, Compelling Gaze or Blade of Light. Several multiclass paths are presented, all directed towards Elven characters.

The Legendary Elf provides high-level prestige classes that can easily stretch into Epic level campaigns. These include the Bold Dreamer, Elfin Maker, Gatekeeper, Golaran, Heart Weaver, Hunt Master, Silaran, and Soul Singer.

Elven Ways and Means looks at elfin crafts, and provides mechanics for elven characters to use certain materials and add various Qualities to the items they make. An Oaken Hearth, for example, may burn merrily with no wood set in its place. A Sycamore Chest may make its contents lighter. The growing of crystals is also detailed, along with the elven ability to carve them and create matrixes of awesome power. Elves may tap into Living Magic, and harness the power of nature directly, rather than use a divine go-between as druids are forced to do. Or they may make use of Woven Light, another craft that is distinctly elven, touched with magic and yet like nothing experienced by regular spellcasters in the outside world. If you want to make your elven civilisations wondrous yet mysterious, this is the chapter for you.

The Elven Magic chapter is split into two parts. First, it demonstrates how certain spells and magic item combinations can prove extremely beneficial to an elf. Second, it provides rules for crafting Magical Charms, items of seemingly minor power, usually given as gifts, that can prove to be real lifesavers. Some new elven-only magical items are also covered such as the Circlet of Light, Elfin Belt and Phylactery of the Stars.

Fey Tricks is a catch-all chapter providing new ways of using skills and new feats that link in with the previous chapters and allow elven characters to properly harness their heritage. The book winds up with a full index and a new character sheet.

The Quintessential Elf II: Advanced Tactics is priced at $21.95 and will be appearing this week in all good games stores and book shops.
