6 years ago, Brilliant San Francisco Police Detective Adrian Monk was traumatized when his wife, Trudy Ann Monk, a newspaper journalist, was killed by a car bomb while working on a story. The event triggered his already eccentric behavior into full-blown obsessive-complusive neurosis. (They have said the name of his disorder on the show, but I cannot remember it.) He runs his own consultation business through Sherona, his personal nurse, who has cared for him for the past six years. Only recently has he returned to a semblance of stability, enough to venture outside. So we have a detective who must sanitize his hands every time he greets someone, who must touch every parking meter down a city block and avoid pavement cracks... ...but who has a mind like a steel trap, and catches the most esoteric clues, to solve crimes where the criminal has an air-tight alibi. Above it all, he is devoted to his late wife, and now, though he has a hard time admitting it, to Sherona. I cannot do it justice, but the show is fun and entertaining, and well worth watching. The interplay of the characters is hilarious, and watching him work through his traumas to solve crimes is done in a funny way, without being insulting. Monk's origin timeslot is at 10:00 pm on Friday nights, without fail. Our USA vendor in South Carolina has not yet skipped a 10:00 pm timeslot, and hopoefully yours won't.
