D&D 5E Monster # of attacks

Sacrosanct

Legend
Quick question. When I'm reading the monster stat blocks, and they have multiple types of attacks such as claw and bite, they still only get one attack each round unless it specifically states "multi-attack: this creature gets one bite and once claw attack per round."

This came up in discussion the other day about how the lion should get a claw and bite attack each round since it's listed. I think that comes from the fact that in previous editions we played, monsters that had claws and bite attacks got multiple ones in the same round.

But I'm pretty sure it's either bite or attack per round. Am I correct?

The items listed under "Actions" on the monster stat block are the different actions the monster has available each turn. It needs Multiattack to use more than one of them per turn.

Correct. Often, if a monster has some form of lesser attack, they have a special attack that requires they use it, or it is used as a bonus action in a special attack.
