Soulforging statues. These are hand sized statues of Dwarven couples in varying positions. Each statue has a base with runes descibing the position's Name, pros and cons. Materials vary but usually stone or non rusting metal. "The Watchtower" - 'both are standing and can draw weapons if attacked' - 'slightly unromantic' These are given to new Soulforgers [newlyweds] by their clan leaders or relatives. The statues are stored in well made but plain boxes. These figurines have a habit of being sold as "erotic dwarven chess sets" much to the ire of dwarves. Value is hard to estimate since the sets not being sold by the dwarven crafters are suspected to have been stolen, since the sets are normally passed down through clans and families. Still coin can be had for a well made statue of unique nature. Giving a set to a unmarried couple is a request they marry, given to a married couple is a hint to them to have more children, given to a single dwarf it is a forward request he or she settle down. Given by a dwarf to the opposite sex in an owned dwelling is a wordless and clanless proposal. The giver presents the set to the intended, in the home the giver wishes to raise the family in. If given outside of a home owned by one of the two dwarves then it’s a request they find someplace together. If a single statue is given, then its just a request for sex. In most cases if the statues are accepted then the “soulforging” begins. Others in the area are expected by custom to show blessing by giving privacy. If a set is given by a lifelong friend to a single dwarf, it means” I know you well and you would raise good children”. However if the set is given by someone who is a combat ally it means “If that is as well you fight, we need more dwarves” or “Maybe your children will fight better than you do.” Their meanings have sometimes dissolved adventuring parties as an unknowing ally gives a found set to allied dwarf. The dwarf must either 1. Accept the giver as a friend then accept the gift as a friend or insult the friend by refusing or 2. Defend his honor with his axe or accept the insult and retire to family life.
