Monsters in weird places are fun

I wouldn't do it all the time, but it is fun occasionally. Especially fun to hear the players try to figure out why it happened. They come up with some really convoluted reasons sometimes!

And of course, the real fun comes when you try to decide which of their insane theories... is right!

My philisophy is to keep my adventures simple as my players have a way of overthinking everything and adding their own complications in all by themselves.

I love it when my players do all my work for me!

As for the topic at hand, seemingly random monster attacks can be fun as the players try to figure out why the heck a slime just attacked them in the tavern. If it happens too often then it just becomes silly and makes the players paranoid.

Fighter: We're under attack!
Wizard: Hold still, I'm casting scorching--
Bartender: Oy, what's all this then?
Cleric: Are you blind?!? We're under attack!
Bartender: Under attack? 'At's just Slobber, the tavern's pet slime! 'E just wants a little hugsy's all.
