Monte Cook's Dungeonaday.com

Crusty Old Meatwad
It's been a year for the Dungeonaday, and I was wondering what subscribers have thought of the quality of the information Monte offers, and the price.

I love Monte's work, but as a primarily 4e player I never subscribed because I didn't want to do the conversion work necessary to get the most use out of it.

But I am willing to reconsider, particularly at the new $84/yr (which averages to $7/month) price.

So, how is the material, and how hard would it be to convert to 4e?

If you like megadungeons (like say Rappan Athuk, Castle Whiterock, Temple of Elemental Evil etc.), you will love this. If you like Monte's work, including and not limited to Ptolus, you'll like it even more.

It shouldn't be too hard to convert to 4e. I know that, at the website's start, there were people translating the material to 4e on the message boards there. I don't know how that goes, but it's really not that hard. The whole thing is pretty system neutral, actually. It's written with 3.5 in mind, of course, and includes direct articles by Jason Bulmahn explaining how to use this or that encounter with the Pathfinder RPG, but really, it shouldn't be too hard to use this with the edition, retroclone, or D&D mockup of your choice.

Good question

I've wondered about DungeonADay.com. I really love stuff in the vein of Rappan Athuk, so your comment makes me think I should buy a subscription. But I'm leery of the online-only format.

And how does subscribing now work? Would I get access to everything?

You can subscribe Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly. See there. No matter what your subscription ends up being, you get access to the whole website for that time. You can also set up your subscription via PayPal, for instance, to renew itself automatically, or not.

So for $10 you can try it for a month and get the entire years worth of content for that month. Hmm that seems worthwhile.

Except, when the sub lapses, you lose it all. That just happened to me, and I didn't realize I was going to expire soon.

If I had realized that my sub was going to lapse, I would have grabbed everything and had it offline. Though I am not sure if Monte has a Terms of Use statement on the site noting that this is illegal.

How Ptolus-flavored is all of this? My Midwood campaign, after four years and change, will finally be wrapping up this year, and I'm thinking of having the action move to Ptolus for the sequel.

It's squarely apart of Ptolus (in the countryside, near the town of Bridenford, which is fairly vanilla/generic in tone), but the website does include some advice from Monte for those DMs who want to use the dungeon within Ptolus.
