Since there's already threads for Drow and the Demonweb pits, I figured i'd go ahead and pop up with a thread looking for ideas for my homebrew. I've changed the Drow and Lolth a bit, but still like the name of "demonweb pits" and want to keep them and know what their function is but have no idea what they are actually like. The changes IMC: There is no great wheel, the powers live on a separate but similar spiritual plane where all the souls or spirits of those that die on the hombrew world go. Elves and their gods are lawful and they sought to exterminate the Drow and thier gods due to "turning chaotic". All the Drow gods were killed except one, Lolth who was still a child goddess at the time. She fled, unknown, with those Drow who remained to the deep underdark because it is a connection to both the material and spirual parts of the plane where divination and travel spells do not work, thus they could not be found nor attacked with ease. With the race of Drow effectivly reduced to a handful and souls of all other Drow permantenly destoryed on the spirtual plane by the other elvish gods, it became neccisary to gather the spirits of recently deceased Drow so they can be cloned, raised, etc. because every single Drow is valuable breeding stock. The instrument for doing this is the Demonweb Pits. All souls of Drow killed in the underdark are caught in them instead of going to the normal spirtual plane. My request is for some ideas of what the Demonweb pits actually are and possible other functions. Pits, filled with webs, seems the trivial answer but really doesn't invoke any sort of stunning visual image. They should be large, possibly a good portion of the main Drow city where Lolth resides. Other than that, anybody have any good and creepy ideas I can steal?
