Here are some more weapon templates to add to the primative weapon templates I posted earlier. Ornate Ornate weapons are inlaid with jewels and use the most expensive materials, such as ivory, for their hilts. Exposed metal surfaces often have detailed etchings or inlays. This is all done without sacrificing the battle worthiness of the weapon itself. The extra detailing costs 300 gps and requires a Craft (jewelry) check of DC 18. Cost: +300 gp. A weapon can be made as ornate as desired, each additional +300 gp value adds +2 to the DC of the Craft (jewelry) check. Military Issue Military issue weapons are mass produced for armies. They have the minimum of frills and often any exposed steel parts are left unpolished. As they are meant for use, they function as well as standard weapons. Military Issue weapons cannot be made masterwork, ornate or ceremonial. They normally are not made of precious materials such as mithril or silver. Carrying a military issue weapon might cause some problems if you are mistaken as a soldier by that nation's enemies or seen as a deserter by that nation's soldiers. Cost: 75% of normal Ceremonial Ceremonial weapons are not designed for use but, rather, have symbolic or aesthetic value. As with Ornate weapons, they are inlaid with jewels and use expensive materials throughout. As the weapon is not meant for use, the weapon only requires a Craft (jewelry) check of DC 16 to make. Cost: 300 gp Special Rule: If used to attack, a Ceremonial weapon will break on a natural roll of 5 or less. Grotesque Grotesque weapons have horrible image such as skulls and fangs formed form the various parts of the weapon. For example, the cross-guard may resemble a bone while the pommel stone resembles a skull. Any blades might have jagged edges or blood-red inlays. A character wielding one or more Grotesque weapons gains a +2 bonus to Intimidate checks. They also gain a -4 penalty to Diplomacy checks when trying to convince someone of their peaceful intentions. This extra detailing costs 300 gps and requires a Craft (jewelry) check of DC 18. Cost: +300 gp Special Rule: See above Sample Weapon The Mace of Orcus The head of this mace is a screaming silver skull with a row of spikes arrayed like a crown. Red inlays cover the tips of the spikes giving the appearance of fresh blood. Its eyes are rubies while its teeth are diamonds. Cleverly concealed holes transfer light into its eye sockets causing them to glow faintly. The haft is a carved to resemble a crooked spine. Double Ornate Grotesque Masterwork Morning Star: cost 1,208 gps.
