Mounted Grapple

rootle

First Post
Hey,
I'm having a summoner and am using my Eidolon as a Mount. Now I'm planning to get it the Grab Evolution to grapple foes. So here are my Questions:
1) Do I get dismounted when my mount starts a grapple?
1.1) Can I do a Ride check (DC?) to avoid being dismounted?
2) Can I do an normal Attack in the consecutive Round as I am not a part of the grapple?
2.1) Even from the back of my mount?

I can't think of any rule that would prevent you from staying mounted. Your mount would have all the penalties of being involved in a grapple, so that is probably enough.

Keep in mind that your mount needs a Bite, Claw, Pincers, Slam, Tentacles or Tail Slap evolution in order to take improved grab. Most of these options can be visually described as grappling/immobilizing someone without actually being on the ground and wrestling with them.

Again, off the top of my head, I can't think of anything that would prevent your summoner from attacking normally while his mount is grappling. I haven't referenced the rules at all to be sure of this.

A 1) I do not see any rules saying your mount can not grapple while you are mounted. That said, unless you have an exotic military saddle, I would imagine you would find penalties to anything you try to do (Concentration, attacks, skills...)

A 1.1) While I would say you do not need a check to avoid dismounting, you probably would need one to remain mounted (ie. not get thrown, different from dismount) probably around 25-1 for every 5 the eidolon beats the CMD for its grapple, and this would be a move equivalent action

A 2) Yes, you can do a normal (standard action) attack (move action used to remain "a horse")

A 2.1) Again, yes. BUT, you are either going to need a reach weapon, a thrown weapon, or a ranged weapon due to the fact the you will not be adjacent I feel. As you said, there is a large snarling beast in the way. Also, you will be going into melee so precise shot is a must for any ranged attack or you suffer -4, and unless you have a way of avoiding it, cover will come into effect, again, large snarling beast in the way.
