Movement While Prone

Is there an express ruling concerning movement while prone, without bothering to stand up?

My players are currently low level, so I give them more mundane combat hazards than magical ones. Ie, they tend to fall down a lot. Understandably, they want concrete answers about their ability to roll around, crawl, etc.

Its all in the new 3.5 PHB. If you are prone you can stand up which incurs an AoO. If you want to crawl you can only move 5' as your move and this also incurs an AoO. You can stand up, attack, and get a 5' adjustment. You can stand up and have a stand or another MEA (still taking the AoO). Hope this helps but as I don' thave my book at work i can't clarify anything else precisely.

Hmmm......

I wonder where this is in the PHB. I couldn't find it last night. I did find something that says that if your movement is restricted down to less than 5', you can still move 5' as a full-round action, and this is not a "5-foot move" in that it will not avoid an AoO.

Also, the new SRD has nothing about "crawling" or prone movement in it that I could find.

Anything "official" on using Tumble while prone?

That would depend upon whether you can move or not. You can always tumble as part of your move, unless your speed has been reduced by armor, excess equipment, or loot.

PHB p142; Move Actions, Move - Crawling
"You can crawl 5 feet as a move action. Crawling incurs attacks of opportunity from any attackers who threaten you at any point of your crawl."

And no, it's not in the SRD. (Nor is the fact that the SRD has been updated posted on the official D20 site.)

Interestingly, while looking for it in the SRD, I found this contradicting whats in the PHB on p141:

"Stand up from prone [Move Equivalent][AoO: No]"

You were looking in the wrong place (old SRD). The new one is not even formatted like that any more.

The new SRD has
Stand up from prone[....]Yes

Where the "Yes" is in the {AoO} column.

EDIT: And I found, in the Combat I section of the SRD:
Crawling: You can crawl 5 feet as a move action. Crawling incurs attacks of opportunity from any attackers who threaten you at any point of your crawl.

So, to answer the earlier question, you could indeed tumble as part of a crawl (moving while prone) and thus you could, while prone:

Use a move action to move 5-feet, using Tumble to avoid the AoO.
Use a move action to stand up.

Unfortunately, you tumble at half speed unless you take a -10 on the tumble check.

It looks like your speed if effectively "5 feet" while prone, and tumbling normally would put you below that.

So it's effectively a DC 25 tumble check.

Looks like the "All-in-One SRD Download" link hasn't been updated then, because that's what I downloaded.
