Pathfinder 1E Multiple animal companions

Normally a druid can only have a single animal companion. Are you thinking about an archetype such as the Pack Lord? In that case the druid chooses at each level whether to increase by one level a companion or gaining a new 1st level companion.

It doesn't say 'only one' (reread prd, but quickly) ... but it always refers to an animal companion and treats the whole topic discussing just a single companion.

fyi: it is just one animal companion. I thought somewhere in my 3x>PF experience rules, or rule clarifications mentioned only one companion.

It's not only meant to be one, it works much better with just one. More than one just gets crowded and problematic, breaking the action economy of the game.

That said, if they're dead set on the idea as a concept, having non-combative pets might be fun. These would just be trained animals and not subject to the animal companion rules, like if someone bought a horse or dog. Use the Handle Animal skill and give them tricks. And they should stay out of combat.
