Is there anything in the rules that prevents a multi-optional template like 'Half-Dragon' (MM1) or 'Monster of Legend' (MM2) being taken multiple times so long as different options are selected each time?

(Disclaimer: Yes, I know that someone will come in and flame me for telling a DM to optimize. My position has always been that a DM ought to be at least aware of the tradeoffs in monster creation. Do your worst.)

Though, MoL has an abyssmally low CR adjustment for what you get.
That said, I wouldn't take it more than once. For the same CR boost I could gain Chameleon and class levels.
Another template 'in between' can change it back, though.Hypersmurf said:Half-Dragon, there is - the first template gives the creature the Dragon type, and the second template can only be applied to 'Any non-Dragon'...
Example: Half-dragon->Half-Fiend->Half-dragon.Another template 'in between' can change it back, though.
