Mummy Rot - When are you Infected?

Alvoros

First Post
I am getting a little bored with minions, so I am changing an encounter around for my KoTS game. I am throwing in a *weakened* version of the Mummy Guardian and a Zombie Hulk instead of an encounter with a bunch of minions.

But...a bit confused...1st use of disease in 4E has me wondering....

In the DM Guide (Disease), it states that from monster attacks with disease, you make a save at the end of the encounter to determine if you are infected.

and....

Under the Mummy Guardian, it states :

Rotting Slam (standard; at-will) - Disease, Necrotic
+11 vs. AC; 2d8 + 3 necrotic damage, and the target contracts level 8 mummy rot.

This is leaving two questions in my mind....

1) Does the 1st stage of the Mummy Rot disease (1/2 healing benefits) take effect immediately after the attack or do they wait until AFTER the battle and make their save?

and that leads me into 2.....

1) In the DM Guide where it states "make a save", is that a regular ol' SAVING THROW, or is that the disease ENDURANCE check? Or do you make the ENDURANCE checks only?

It sounds pretty clear that it occurs after the encounter. And it also sounds like "save" means "endurance check."

During the battle, you get hit by a disease attack. Until the end of the encounter, nothing happens.

After the encounter is over, you immediately make a normal Saving Throw. If you succeed, you're safe. If you fail, you catch the disease and the Initial Effect immediately takes effect.

After you take an extended rest, you make an Endurance check. If you get lower than the Maintain DC, you move down the ladder. If you roll lower than Improve DC, but make the Maintain DC, you stay put. If you make the Improve DC, you move up the ladder.

Once you hit the Final Effect or become cured, you stop making Endurance checks and are stuck with what you have. Normally, the only way to get rid of a disease once you reach Final Effect is the Remove Disease ritual.

Hope that helps.
