Unfortunately for him we used those really old really brutal crit tables from some Dragon Magazine. One time he used the ring to charge out to battle a slightly larger then hatchling red dragon that was swimming in a near boiling lake. First round the dragon hits, crits, and bites his left hand off. We all stood there dumbfounded as the ranger in full plate armor sank to the bottom of the lake. We werent sure if he cooked first or drowned first. We werent going to try to save him. Mommy rose up out of the lake and we all scattered. My character was already outside the cave as one of the fighters started running out the long narrow side tunnel we had found.We had thought it odd that the dragon would leave this easy way in and out. As he ran down she stuck her head in the one end and breathed. My character who was standing at the other end was pelted with this rain of fine black dust.
