It looks like a 10' length of cable with a heavy snap-swivel at each end); a Hammer-backed Handaxe (balanced for throwing) which incorporates a prybar, as well; a Longknife, which is a cross between a shortsword and a throwing knife. Also, he tends to "engineer" specialty items which allow him to make things work the way that he thinks they should... Having done some climbing, myself, I also shudder/laugh at the weight/bulk of grapnels in the D&D game... NONE of the ones I own weigh ANYWHERE NEAR that much! I have a pretty nice, high-tech folding version which fits in a standard canteen pouch, when folded. I have had my PC hire an engineer to design one, for him, and then had an expert blacksmith build it for him. It opens, and locks, with a flick of the wrist, and is smaller and lighter (and more expensive than) the standard version. It also makes a great club, at need (and coupled with a rope, can be used as a Manriki-Gusari, as well).</p><p></p><p>His cable version of the Manriki-Gusari came about after trying to use a 10' chain with padlocks on each end as a weapon, and having one GM tell me that it rattled, and would penalize my <em>Move Silently</em> checks. So I had one designed with a cable, instead: hence no rattles. It has other uses, too, though, such as being used as a safety line... My PC has had a Climber's Kit (harness) worked into his armour since 2nd level. When he needs to cross a rope, he uses one snap-swivel to attach to the rope, the other to his harness. So even if he falls off, he can't "fall". It has also been used to wrap around the neck of an NPC Pick-pocket in order to co-erce him into going back to Lord Karl and tell him all about a rebellion that he knew was being planned. The old chain version is used to tie up his horse.</p><p></p><p>Exotic Weapons are always nice... Those hand-crossbows, for instance. No one but the Rogues will be likely to ever use them, but they sell for half price. Same with Monk's weapons...</p><p></p><p>Minor minor magical items are also nice... Things like the <em>Ever-burning Torch</em>, or a ring of unlimited <em>Magehand</em>, or a metal disc with the Druidic <em>Know Direction</em> (AKA a compass!), etc.</p><p></p><p>Superior gear, such as an Alchemist's Lab, MW Thieve's Tools (or any other sort), MW weapons and armour, MW Specialty Items, etc. Mithral & Adamantite, too! Silver weapons! Armour with gold plating, swords with inset stones, etc.</p><p></p><p>Jewelry. Objects d'Arte (paintings, tapestries, even statuary). Items of historical interest (old documents, old coins which are worth more to collectors than the modern value, ancient deeds to long-abandoned castles, which the PCs can claim and clear out), treasure maps, clues to the whereabouts of ancient relics or artifacts...</p></blockquote><p></p>
