The trees I get from a variety of sources, from Toy stores to miniatures stores to pet stores and home decor wholesale stores - and even Halloween stores. In the pictures below, there are examples of each. The ship I got at toys-r-us (browse thru there and you will find LOTS of stuff usable for miniatures at non-miniature prices). The ship scene at the bottom was inspired by the module in Dungeon magazine entitled "A Tyranny of Souls" - there is a scene there of a platform on a tortured face. When I saw it, I realized it looked just like a Halloween prop I had. The encounter itself was part of my own created campaign. In that scene, the PCs had to get past the giants, across the chains, and to the ship - then convince the ship crew to join them via skill challenge, then go thru several encounters and skill challenges to actually make it to the destination port alive. They did, though barely. btw Home decor/craft wholesale stores are the BEST source of miniatures related stuff for low prices. For like a buck or so you can get a big bag of underbrush, a ship for 15 bucks, unique figures, foam for making caverns and paint to paint them (stone quarry by design master is my color of choice), figures, and other stuff. I always look for stuff used by other crafts - the word "miniatures" for some reason triples the price lol. Take the same building and put it in a fish tank and it costs 12 bucks - but buy it as a "miniatures" building and it is $60!!! Look at the beautiful bridge for my stream in the first pic below - to scale - that I bought at a fish tank store for $5 - PAINTED. I got a bunch of miniature trees at the home decor store that were intended for the "miniature Japanese tree" craft market for a third of what they would have cost in a miniatures store.
