D&D 4E My attempt at 4e Wail of the Banshee

Why should it be thunder damage at all? AFAIK, the 3E version only had the sonic descriptor to indicate that the effect is blocked by silence. It's more of an unnatural wail, whereas thunder damage is pure sonic energy, i.e. sort of a shock wave.

If you want to keep the thunder damage, I suggest you make the rolled damage thunder damage but the rest completely necrotic. That would simulate a powerful shockwave, carrying death magic with it.

Cheers, LT.
that would be exactly why he keeps thunder. so it will be blocked appropriately by something that blocks thunder damage (sound)

That's not how multiple damage keywords work. An effect that blocks thunder damage would just block half the effect's damage, and would do nothing to the other half.

My opinion is the area of effect is a little too large. Maybe Burst 5, or leave it Burst 10 and have it affect "All Creatures" so that the Wizard has to be careful about his allies. Or maybe both...

It would be nice to see some other Save, Save, Save or Die (SSSoD) effects for some of the other classes.

Something that does good damage, maybe knocking several creatures back (or unconcious) for the fighter and makes one or more of them SSSoD.

Something that deals massive damage to one target (plus SSSoD) for the warlock.
