I have always loved the concept of runecasters. My game made extensive use of the runethane from Monte's Arcana Evolved, but the class always fell a bit short. Hopefully 4e will have a chance to make a truly good runecaster. Runic Power Your power type is "runic". You can draw mystical patterns (called runes) upon objects or creatures that possess magical power. Notes about Runic Powers: 1) Runes don't have durations, they last until they are triggered. You can only have a number of copies of the same runic power equal to your intelligence modifier. 2) Each rune has a triggering condition that determines how and when the power is set off. For runes that are placed on creatures, the creature can activate the rune with an action. 3) Runes can never be made or placed closer than 4 squares to another rune. If a rune is brought within this distance, the rune that was moved fades without triggering. If a rune has the "shared" descriptor, it ignores this limitation, and doesn't hinder other runes. 4) Runes are normally bright and clearly visible. Runes with the "veiled" descriptor are designed to be hidden. A creature must make an opposed spot check vs your intelligence check to see the rune. 5) If a runic power is triggered, the creator instantly knows which rune was triggered. 6) Runes can normally only be placed on objects. Runes with the "creature" descriptor can be placed on creatures. 7) A runes casting time tells you how long it takes to scribe the rune, not how long it takes to activate it. Rune of Blasting Runic Attack 1 (At will, Standard action, Veiled, Force) "A small sigil of energy very dimly glows upon the surface of a object" Triggering Condition: A creature approaches within 1 square of the rune. Attack: Intelligence Attack vs Reflex Defense, Close Burst 1 square. Hit 1d6 + int mod. Rune of Detection Runic Utility 1 (At will, Standard action, Veiled, Shared) "This snake like sigil runs along an object" Triggering Condition: A creature that approaches within 2 squares of the rune. Attack: Special + Followup Special: Caster becomes aware of the race that triggered the rune. Followup: Intelligence Attack vs Will. Caster obtains the name of the person who triggered the rune. Rune of Targeting Runic Utility 1 (At will, Standard action, shared, creature) "This rune runs along the length of a creature arm, and the rune stretches along the length of any weapon the creature holds in that arm" Triggering Condition: Minor Action Effect: Creatures gains a +1 power bonus to their next attack roll. Rune of Health Runic Utility 4 (Encounter, Move Action, Shared, Creature) "This bright green rune pulses with its targets pulse, if it has one" Triggering Condition: The rune is finished scribing. Effect: The creature the rune is placed upon gains 1 temporary hit point for until the end of their next turn. Sustain Minor: The creature receives a new temporary hit point every round its sustained until the encounter is over. Rune of Delayed Blasting Runic Attack 1 (Per Day, Standard Action, Veiled) Triggering Condition: 1 round to 5 minutes after scribing, set by the caster when he scribes the rune. Effect: Intelligence Attack vs Reflex, Close Blast 3 squares. Hit 2d6 + intelligence modifier and Followup Followup: Intelligence Attack vs Will or Stunned (save ends). Miss: Half Damage and no followup.
