I agree with you Eben, and what random encounters there are would be a cakewalk for the players IMO. The band of Bards is a clever idea as some of the players have created lejendary weapons and stories are being told about them currently. The bards may have a nack for soothing the players with magic and music then stealing thier magic items to be sold in the city. I completely agree that a wizard or Sorcerer needs to be part of the encounter as magic at high levels is very deadly. Please understand that the encounter isn't just DM against the players, rather its my throwing another reality check at them through the storyline of the game. So many ideas, so many decisions...
