CrazyMage
4th Level Lawful Good Cleric
For my game has finally begun!
Quick background: While introduced to DND in the mid 80's/late grade school, never really played much due to lack of strong DM. Enough residual interest remained that when 3rd edition came along, I snagged the PHB, and then the DMG and MM and started watching and reading many of the cool new products coming out.
How to use all these books? I started tinkering with a world of my own, but I knew for a number of reasons, that I was going to be somewhat picky about the people I'd like to game with. Got in touch with an old friend who played long ago and he was willing to try the new edition. Finally got to play a couple of weeks ago. He's playing a female half-elf ranger, which ought to work nicely for one on one play.
This was my first time DMing, and while I had a number of ideas in mind, actually putting them into play and seeing how they formed up was great, as my player contributed his own ideas, and gave me several cool ideas for the future. Played things kind of loose, rule-wise, for his sake as well as my own to keep things moving and to let the story come out.
He also rewarded my trust in his character. The major combat encounter was with several wounded gnolls (one shot to take them out from a distance, with reduced XP) who were looting a wagon which was carrying ca. 50,000 gp worth of gold bars. This is money being smuggled in to pay for spies and saboteurs in a nearby country. He kept a few bars (250 gp worth) for himself, but turned over the rest to the local authorities, playing true to his alignment.
Now I can finally put to use all those linear feet of gaming books, which I must re-read so I actually remember the rules!
Happy to be among the gaming...
