My fellow cartographers....

In the process of building my new campaign world, I hit an obstacle....

city maps.

I can't seem to draw decently realistic ones. The world is geographically based, mostly, on Earth... and so are the cultures.

Does any of my fellow ENWorlders know where I could find maps of ancient cities? Mostly, medieval cities...

I sympathise - have the same problem myself - my art skills top out at a 7 year old standard. Bah! Just started a new campaign and I'd been hunting for them as well!

I found some pretty good stuff buried away on the Wizards of the coast site - few been done on the, now discontinued, Map Of The Week articles. It's in their archives.

Thought they were really neatly done, if you need some inspiration. Although probably best to ask before using any!

I strongly recommend using historical maps. There's so much material available, and they add a lot of flavor to a campaign.

Conaill - I agree. One of the reasons I decided to use a simil-Earth setting (in geography and cultures) is to help players feel more "at home"... so that the feeling of strangeness increases when they meet something outworldly...

keep it coming people.... and feel free to ask if there's any material you might need, I'll be glad to help search out as you're doing for me. JUst wonder why google didn't point me to all these sites you're recommending...

What mapping app do you use?

If you use CC2, take this recommendation:
Search some sites and find a copy of the Forgotten Realms Atlas. Grab City maps out of it and change the names to suit your needs.

Even if you have City Designer, putting together a large city is a PITA. So go forth and plunder!
