[QUOTE="Grydan, post: 4792352, member: 79401"] I've seen two TPK's so far with 4E. First, as a player. Fifth level party, in the encounter that would have taken us to 6. Dwarf Cleric of Tempus (originally of Kord, as we started when the PHB first came out, and transported ourselves to Forgotten Realms once the FRPG arrived/ This was the only character that had been in every session to that point, as I was the only other every-session player, and had changed characters in the second session) Dwarf Fighter Elf Ranger (archer, my character) Half-Elf Paladin of Kelemvor (originally of the Raven Queen) The party also included a human wizard, but he was absent that session. A wraith of some sort, two hellhounds, and the campaign's recurring BBEG, a wizardy type. Damaging auras, a mostly melee party, and some poor party tactics (including myself taking far too long to get the heck away from the wraith) had us all drop. BBEG barely contributed to the fight, letting his lackeys do the dirty work. I guess you CAN get good help. On the other side of the screen, I ran a level 1 party of mostly new players (3 new to rpgs, 1 new to 4E, and a player from the group I play in... he played the paladin above) through Kobold Hall as an intro. Dragonborn Paladin of Corellon Half-Elf Inspiring Warlord Halfling Artful Dodger Rogue Human Staff of Defense Wizard Tiefling Star Pact Warlock Short sessions, and the learning curve, kept us to 1 encounter per session. All went swimmingly until the night scheduled for the final encounter. The rogue wasn't able to make it, but the players decided to soldier on without her... and kept on soldiering on until Szartharrax had squashed everyone. So I gave them a do-over, and next session, with the rogue on their side, and forearmed with knowledge of what they were to face, and how it tended to fight, they managed to get through without losing anyone (though the warlock was a close call). The same party (with the tiefling's player having switched to an elf two-weapon ranger), are now at level 2 and working through Keep on the Shadowfell (with me having switched to the revised version partway through), where they know cheerfully mow through their opponents, with the last couple of sessions getting two or even three encounters in.
