They have eight tentacles, with the two in the front for grasping and the others for movement and attaching to a host. They are eyeless and to modern knowledge deaf, they use a type of vibration sense to ‘see’ the world. Their mouth is on their belly region as well as a type of complicated tube system for gaining nutrients from the host. This system connects to the blood stream, lymph system, and central nervous system. This is used to gain protein, vitamins, minerals, immunity to diseases the host has experienced, and to experience the host’s senses it lacks.

With such a complicated system of connections, the most important is a tubule that carries a fluid from the licid to the host. While it keeps it’s self going on the hosts extra or normal nutrients, it processes a type of amino acid that triggers a magical or extraordinary response in the host. A good example is the ‘tempting’ licid. It’s a parasitic type of licid that causes the host to emit a pheromone that makes predators attack and kill it on site. Or the ‘enraging’ licid, a symbiotic type that gives the host the knowledge and ability to take to battle quickly (to use the improved initiative feat). The body doesn’t become addicted to the effect but the host may become reliant if it looses sight of its true nature.

As mentioned, licids are either as symbiots or parasites. The symbiotic types are very intelligent, but can’t speak. They have a limited telepathy that carries general ideas to a desired host. This is used to gain permission (it’s rude to attach without consent), after that it may speak to the host in its mind via the nervous connections. This type only takes from the extra nutrients in the host (often reducing the chance to gain weight from too much food) and intern grants awesome magical or extraordinary abilities. The parasitic licids look similar to a symbiotic counter part or are much larger in size. They hunt for a foolish host, and once attached, draw from the host as much nutrients as possible until the host is dead or it leaves to let it suffer. This isn’t true to all parasitic licids; some species use the host in some diabolical way. Of course they are intelligent and very evil. Instead of granting a blessing, they give misery and woe, eventually death and despair. These sages say that the Dominating Licid was the original strain meant to be a familiar and watchdog. If the wizards home was invaded, these little creatures were to drop on and take over the minds of the invaders, through which the wizard would gain more and more laborers.
