what should i build next ?

So....to make a long story short I bought some plaster and molds and began to make my own dungeon(dwarven forge is way overpriced). My players are loving it.It is alot of work however. But my issue is I'm not sure what to build next? I have so many ideas but don't know where to start. here is a few examples..

cavern
crypt
mining area
jail cells
sleeping areas

heres is a video to give an idea of where I am at in construction.

So throw me some Ideas and feedback guys...

Nice video and work so far.

I voted caverns because it seems as though what you have already might double for the other options in a pinch.

I also think going multi level would be interesting. For that, I'm thinking stairs and ladders as a neccesity, and potentially other options, including going down (with a real pit).

Holy carp! That's awesome! My dad and I do miniatures when I visit; lately he's taken to using that semi-sculptable, carvable foam stuff to create nifty bases. Neither of us is as ambitious as you are!

I voted caves as well, because I think that would be the least simple thing to replicate on the fly. Sewers would be my close second, though I can't imagine your group will do much adventuring in sewers.

That is excellent. How long did it take you to make those?

Edit: nevermind, you mention it in the vid. I totally blurred past that. :)

And I'm voting caverns too, for the stated reasons.

hi

thanks for all the relies guys....

I started a few more pieces last night..
another video to come.......

cavern should be an interesting challenge but definitely doable. I am gonna play around and see about doing levels as well.

I dont think I'd ever go into business selling them though. Very time consuming.

well guys i gotta get back to work but i will post updates soon......

I dont think I'd ever go into business selling them though. Very time consuming.

That is one of the reasons that Dwarven Forge can't be considered overpriced. If I take the amount of time it would take for me to cast, build, paint and assemble the pieces that would be equivalent to a Dwarven Forge set, the cost would be much higher.

It's a matter of how much you value your time. Casting and building yourself gives you wonderful flexibility, but it does eat up a lot of time.

I figure for plaster +parts i have under 60 dollars in my dungeon.... including quite a few pieces not in the video.

DF stuff would be around 200 dollars...

If i had enough molds I could easily spend one day and build an equal size dungeon....but it would be several hours of casting and a few hours of painting....

I do own some DF sets. but Ii don't think I will buy them again unless I have a sever lack of time or the produce a set that is far beyond my skill set to reproduce.

Thanks for the update and keep up the good work! :)

Does anyone add dye or paint to the mix so they come out gray from the molds? Or would that weaken the materials?
