My House Rules

I'm trying to keep house rules to a minimum, however they always seem to crop up. Here are mine:

  • Ranger favored enemy bonus. At 1st level a ranger has +1 to one favored enemy. At 5th level, +2 to both favored enemies. At 10th level, +3 to all three favored enemies, etc.
  • Rangers get Improved Two-Weapon Fighting as a virtual feat at 9th level, provided they are in light armor or less. *Thanks NWN for the inspiration.
  • When a character loses a level, she loses average hit points + Con bonus, and gains that exact number back when she levels up to her previous level. Also, she loses however many skill points she gained when she advanced to her previous level, taken from any skill she's put points into. *I did this because it was easier than keeping meticulous notes on who put what points where and who rolled what on each level's hit die.
  • The jiann (tai chi sword) and the hook sword from Avalanche Press LTD's Jade and Steel book are considered monk weapons in my game. *Because the butterfly sword, which appears in Jade & Steel in the same list of exotic weapons, is called a monk weapon in OA.

pg 45 3rd edition PHB
"A ranger with a base attack bonus of at least +9 can choose to gain the Improved two weapon Fighting Feat, even if he does not have the other prerequistes for the feat. A ranger must be wearing light armor or no armor to gain this benefit."

It's not really a house rule :P

otherwise sounds good, but you're probably better off using Monte Cook's ranger revised.

Actually, his version sounds like the Ranger gets it for free. In the core rules the Ranger qualifies for it but still has to select it as one of his feats.
