I rather dislike the fact that the Hunter of the Dead in DoF requires that you take levels in cleric or paladin, and that its basicaly a militant class. So, I created two undead hunter prestige classes of my own, one for melee types, and one for spellcasters. This is the melee one
Undead Hunter
Requirements:
Base Attack Bonus: +6
Skills: Knowledge (Religion) 4 ranks
Special: The Undead Hunter must have lost a level or ability score point to the draining powers of an undead creature. Must have single handedly defeated an undead creature who’s hit dice equaled or exceeded the Undead Hunter’s character level.
Skills: As fighter, but add Knowledge (Religion)
Hit Die: d10
1st level: Destroy Undead: at 1st level the Undead Hunter has learned to combine his hatred of the undead with a knowledge of their weaknesses. Any melee attack, or ranged attacked made from within 30 feet by the Undead Hunter against an undead creature receives a +1 bonus to hit, and does +1d6 damage. At 5th level, these bonuses increase to +2/+2d6, and at 9th level, it’s +3/+3d6
2nd level: Detect Undead: at 2nd level, the Undead hunter may use Detect Undead at will.
3rd level: Turn Undead: at 3rd level, the Undead Hunter may turn undead as a cleric 2 levels lower than his Undead Hunting level. If the Undead Hunter already had the ability to turn undead, he adds his Undead Hunter level -2 to his effective cleric level for turning purposes.
4th level: Ward Death’s Touch: at 4th level the Undead Hunter may add his Wisdom modifier, if positive, to all saving throws against the spells, spell like abilities, and supernatural abilities of Undead.
6th level: Undead Bane: at 6th level any weapon the Undead Hunter wields is considered to have the Bane property against undead.
8th level: Disrupt Undead: At 8th level, whenever the Undead Hunter strikes an Undead creature who’s total hit dice are less than his character level, the undead creature must make a Will save or be destroyed. The DC of this save is 10 + half the Undead Hunter’s class level, + Wisdom modifier.
10th level: Undeath’s Eternal Foe: At 10th level the Undead Hunter becomes immune to energy drain, ability drain, and ability damage from undead sources. Additionally, he adds his Wisdom modifier as a deflection bonus to armor class against the attacks of undead creatures. Lastly, any undead creature destroyed by the Undead Hunter is forever destroyed and cannot be restored or re animated by any means.
