My Modrons

Reading the "Morons and Salad" thread made me dig through all my old notes on how I present the modrons.

So, here;

Modrons are force constructs. They faintly glow a translucent blue and if inspected closely, their surface is covered with mathematical symbols.

The different ranks come in the shapes of the platonic solids. (No d10, thats not mathematically perfect enough for them. Of course the lowest level is a sphere (one sided? ;).

Monodron: Sphere. 1HD, 1 eye.
Tetradron: 4 sided pyramid. 4HD, 3 eyes.
Cubedron: 6 sided cube. 6HD, 4 eyes.
Octatdron: 8 sided spindle(?) 8HD, 4 eyes.
Dodecadron: 12 sided (sphere ish) 12 HD, 6 eyes.
Icosadron: 20 sided (sphere ish) 20 HD, 10 eyes.

All ranks levitate (psionic) with 1 in 12 capable of flight. Each eye, in addition to being a sensory organ, is also a telekinetic arm. A modron can also fire telekinetic blasts of force out of up to half its arms at once.

All modrons can speak telepathically with each other (use ranges in 1ed MM), and the ranks above monodron can speak with other creatures. They have a limited hive mind based on distance to each other and numbers in the area.

Above the Icosahedron lies the ranks of the hierarchs. The hierarchs are star shaped constructs that as they evolve become somewhat human in form. Primus is the leader and most evolved. (In appearance a generalized glowing Dr Manhattan).

Axiomites are the creations of the hierarchs or Primus, and are considered special agents for the Modrons. (better capable of mortal interface) When Pathfinder created axiomites, I integrated them.

Inevitables are created by the modrons for specific purposes, and are powered by the essence of various levels of modron ranks.

Modron motivation is opaque to most creatures.

Scholars agree that it should have something to do with the construction and maintenance of the cosmos, or some type of pattern (think Roger Zelanzy and Amber). They build machines and constructs seemingly at random across the multiverse. They have been known to respond to planar breeches and seal them, but just as often they have created planar rifts and pathways. A disgruntled traveller from a distant plane once called them "an implacable heartless bulldozer like armada".
