My PC Blew Up: Advice needed!

Yayhoo!

Power supplies are, in my experience, fairly fickle. Eight times out of ten, it's usually the power supply that is the problem.
You're using cheep power supplies then.

I've only ever had 1 fail in any computer I've owned, and that was a cheeper one that died after 5 years. It passed on quietly though. I turned it off to go to gencon, came back, and it wouldn't power up.

My last 2 computers have had Antec Truepower power supplies. Quiet, efficient, and consistant, they've been good to me.

Hooray! Yes, Power Supplies can be a pain in the neck.

Perhaps it is not worth while to mention now, but a UPS between your outlet and your computer, if you don't have one already, is sometimes helpful. Just as a little "added insurance".

Antec makes nice power supplies, yes. I personally like the Thermaltake, but Antec makes good stuff too. As Bront mentioned about the "Truepower" supplies, always be sure to get power supplies that say that they do exactly that. Cheaper ones say they output a certain wattage but only do so periodically rather than all the time. Often this serves as the cause for their dying with today's power hungry components, let alone if you decide to try and overclock anything.

Glad the blown supply didn't fry anything else in your pc....

Also, if you've been thinking about getting a new case or upgrading in any way, now's a good time to make that purchase. You can get some really nice cases with power supplies already installed.
